Own The Conversation - Issue 83
WTF is going wrong with chatbot implementations? Not related - how to thrive in multidisciplinary teams. Lots of jobs flooding onto the board. It's this week's Own The Coversation.
As I burrow my way out of the arctic blast that we’ve been experiencing here in the UK for the last week or so, I find myself getting more and more excited about the future of our industry and profession.
Just look at the news this weekend about the DPD chatbot that was made to swear.
My take: the advent of chatGPT and easy access to LLMs has made people/orgs fall into the false sense of security when it comes to creating chatbots. There is no shortcut, building and implementing a chatbot is a project - in much the same way as building a website or even launching a new customer service team or contact centre solution. You don’t ask the marketing intern or an IT person to just ‘pop a chatbot on our website’. This is a conversational interface into your organisation and there’s a lot to take into account before going live.
I know I don’t need to say this to many of you readers, but if you’re not planning for prompt injection attacks, hallucinations and all the other wonderful things that you get with an LLM then take a step back and rethink what you are doing.
Also, for those of you who have a keen interest in Conversational AI in HR and Recruitment, specifically, I have launched a new newsletter called H.A.I.R. - AI in HR (get it?). It’s also deliciously ironic, seeing as hair isn’t something I would usually talk about… (IYKYK).

So anyway, let’s get on with things.
If you think your connections would benefit from subscribing to this newsletter, feel free to share it.
And if you are coming here off the back of a social share, or stumbled across it accidentally and think it’s something you need to be subscribed to (why wouldn’t you!?!) then feel free to subscribe here:
So, without further ado, let's dive in and Own The Conversation!
To another great week ahead,
Martyn
Jobs
Massive slews of roles coming onto the job board recently. I’m working on how to make this even better over the coming months and indexing many more roles to make this THE job board for the Conversational AI industry.
There are now three ways that I help connect job seekers to opportunities, and employers to Conversational AI professionals:
Bot Jobs… The original and largest job board dedicated to Conversational AI roles, globally. Register for job alerts and get the latest jobs straight into your inbox daily or weekly. Remember, readers of this newsletter get their first posting for free using “FIRST1FREE”.
Bot Jobs Talent Pool… Employers, by getting access to the Talent Pool, can get direct access to candidates without the hassle of advertising and screening applications. If you’re in the market for a new role, or even a conversation, then make sure your profile is up to date and that you turn on the “Display my profile to employers” option on your profile.
Bot Jobs Freelancers… As a freelancer, by joining us, you can not only showcase your skills with your free portfolio builder but also connect with businesses that value your expertise.
As a business member, you get to tap into a pool of talented freelancers ready to bring their unique perspectives to your projects. Plus, leave the hassles of administrative tasks to us - we'll handle the systems, processes, and payments, letting you focus on what you do best: creating and innovating.
