Colleagues
Firstly, I want to remind you to participate in my latest salary survey for Conversational AI roles. To enter, click the image here 👇
Now, there’s been a few interesting things that have crossed my desk this week, which I really wanted to share with you.
The first was a news article from the BBC about how AI has disintermediated the Copywriting role. This article chronicles how the future of that role looks - layoffs, with a skeleton staff retained to oversea the AI (ironically to edit copy to make it sound more human), before they too end up on the scrap heap. This will be the playbook for any role disintermediated in the future.
AI Took Their Jobs. Now They Get Paid to Make it Sound Human
The next cool thing was a crazy creative resume. We know these are a bad idea, as you can’t really use them to apply via the regular route (company career site into an applicant tracking system), but I love seeing how people communicate data and information in different styles. Data Scientist Eric Moreu demonstrates his dazzling creativity and design flair with this immersive ‘infinite zoom’ CV. Have you seen a better example of creative CV/Resume?
Finally, the last few weeks have seen me talking a lot about the continuous debate of Hybrid vs Remote vs RTO (acronyms… Work From Home & Return to Office). It was pointed out to me that a lof of Conversation Design roles advertised on Bot Jobs are now asking for people who can either be on site full-time OR work in a hybrid arrangement - 1/2/3 days per week in the office and the rest are WFH. The argument is that the best Conversation Designers are only looking for remote work.
There’s a clear divide between what employees want vs employers.
The impact of the pandemic is a permanent shift to greater work flexibility, especially in digital industries, which, incidentally, also tend to cluster around metropolitan centres. There is a great report from WFH Research, the money shot being the image above - 28% of paid days work in the US is WFH, median avg is 2.2 days per week remote. So unfortunately, the opportunity for permanent remote work is limited. It’s still the minority engagement type for all industries.
What do we need to do? Bend to the will of the employer, push back, educate or meet in the middle? I’d love to hear you comments.

Jobs
We’re running at almost 150 jobs live on the board continuously, and it looks like we’re heading into a golden era of career opportunity.
So, here’s the job categories that you can get to quickly from here.
FYI, if you want timely alerts on roles added to Bot Jobs, then we already have email notifications, which you can sign up to at Bot Jobs, the jobs are all posted to our LinkedIn page and we have a LinkedIn newsletter for regular lists of roles available. I even post them to my X (formally, Twitter) feed and now to our own subreddit.
There are three ways that I help connect job seekers to opportunities, and employers to Conversational AI professionals:

The launch of Bot Jobs Mentors
This week, I am pleased to announce the launch of Bot Jobs Mentors.
The aim here is to use the Bot Jobs platform as a way of connecting mentors with mentees. For me, it's another way to help people succeed and advance in their Conversational AI careers. There's no charge for this, so if you want to offer some time out for mentoring, head along to the 'post a job' page, select the 'Mentoring' option and go from there.
To support the launch, I have created a new blog - The Bot Jobs Guide to Successful Mentoring. This blog not only lays out some great ideas and frameworks for ensuring your mentor/mentee relationship is an effective one, but gives you instructions for how to set up your Bot Jobs Mentor profile.
As of writing this, we currently have two mentors listed. I’d love to see more of you put yourself forward as mentors. Get in touch if you want to discuss first.
Events to Attend: 2024 events
I’m curating a crowdsourced list of events to attend in 2024. 30+ events already listed. Are you running a meetup, webinar, summit or conference? Take a look and remember to add your event here. Networking at these kinds of events has brought new opportunities for community members, so make sure to take advantage of any event you can.
As always, if you want to add anything to the next newsletter (events/jobs etc.) then feel free to DM me on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Threads.
Here’s hoping you have a great week.
Yours in AI,
Martyn
